Hope Outdoor Gallery / by Will Tung

Not too long ago, the only thing interesting about this place was a castle styled mansion on top of a hill near Baylor and 11th St. I remember sneakily scaling the cascading walls in the middle of the night to get a wonderful view of the city skyline a few times. Then a funny thing happened. Graffiti art started to show up on these walls, at first just a little bit here and there. Then, like an unspoken contest, more and more artists tried to one up each other. The last time I was here, about 2 years ago, all the walls were covered, but there weren’t that many visitors. I finally went again, this time with Ebby and Grey, and the place was packed with people taking pictures. It even had an official name: Hope Outdoor Gallery.
